Guildwood Cat Relief is a small, private network of foster homes that work together to find loving, permanent homes for cats and kittens in need.

Our kitties come from east Scarborough and further afield and include many that have been abandoned or surrendered due to their owner's illness, allergies, loss of housing or financial crisis. Some are young and some are old; some are healthy and some need restorative veterinary care.

IMPORTANT MESSAGE if you are considering adopting a GCR cat :

Thank you for considering adoption! We receive many wonderful applications from caring people like you. We would like you to know that while we wish we could respond to everyone personally, we're only able to reach out to applicants whose circumstances best match our cats' unique needs. We want to do the best for them, and finding the perfect match between our cats and their forever families is our top priority. Please allow 1 to 5 days for a reply from Guildwood Cat Relief. If you do not get a response, your application was likely denied.

Shadow, a fluffy black medium-haired cat available for adoption

Shadow (Come Visit Me at Pet Valu - Port Union)

Age: 2.5 years
Gender: male
Colour: DMH Black
Vaccinated: Yes
Spayed/Neutered: Yes.
Good with Other Cats: They make me nervous.
Good with Dogs:
No
Available Programs: Adoption, Foster-to-Adopt

Shadow loves every human he meets and adores being the centre of attention. An easy-going, happy boy with a beautiful fluffy tail who is always in the mood for pets and looks forward to a human bed to sleep on, he really enjoys hanging out with you (like your “shadow”) and just being part of the family. During his routine vet visit he was purring so loudly that the vet couldn’t properly hear his heart! Humans are definitely Shadow’s thing – nervous around other cats, he would definitely prefer to be the only cat in the household!

Oliver, a brown tabby cat with golden eyes, available for adoption

Oliver

Age: 2 years
Gender: male
Colour: DSH brown tabby mix
Vaccinated: Yes
Spayed/Neutered: Yes.
Good with Other Cats: No thank you!
Good with Dogs:
Unknown
Available Programs: Adoption, Foster-to-Adopt

I’m an affectionate, loyal kitty with pretty golden eyes who thinks human companionship is the best, and just loves pets and cuddles. I can be quiet and curious at first but soon you’ll discover  that I love to play, both alone and with you. I even get the zoomies sometimes. Some of my favourite things are hanging out  somewhere nearby while you work, enjoying my afternoon siesta on the sofa to the fullest, and watching the birds and the squirrels compete for the peanuts my foster home’s neighbours put out every day. But I’d give up bird-watching in a heartbeat for a forever home with a nice family!

Adoption Fee: $200

Hamish, a young black-and-white tuxedo cat available for adoption

Hamish

Age: 1 year, 10 months
Gender: male
Colour: DSH Tuxedo
Vaccinated: Yes
Spayed/Neutered: Yes.
Good with Other Cats: Only good behaving ones.
Good with Dogs:
Unknown
Available Programs: Adoption, Foster-to-Adopt

Everyone seems to agree that I’m a particularly gentle, affectionate, mellow young guy, to which I‘d add that I‘m a real family cat -  I love people. My favourite pastimes are getting pets, interacting and playing with my humans (the best), watching the world outside from the comfort of the window sill, and stretching out on my back so I can have my tummy rubbed – and I guess I shouldn’t forget sleeping on your bed every night.  All in all, I’m a kitty who has a lot of love to give – and if you and yours love me back, my world will be perfect!

Adoption Fee: $200

Cymric, a grey-and-white tuxedo cat with a distinguished grey beard, available for adoption

Cymric

Age: 2 years
Gender: male
Colour: DSH Dilute Dark Grey & White Tuxedo
Vaccinated: Yes
Spayed/Neutered: Yes.
Good with Other Cats: Not really.
Good with Dogs:
Unknown
Available Programs: Adoption, Foster-to-Adopt

Cymric is hard to miss. With his rangy frame, distinguished gunpowder grey beard, and striking tuxedo coat, he cuts quite the figure. Underneath all that quiet elegance, though, is an unabashed, full-hearted Mama's boy. Cymric craves communication with humans. He’s affectionate and never shy about letting you know exactly how he's feeling. When he wants your attention he'll rear up on his hind legs in front of you and ask to be picked up - and once you do, he tucks in close and purrs with settled contentment. Cymric is warm with everyone he meets, adults and children, and would absolutely thrive in a family environment. For him, that just means more people to fuss over him, and that sounds about perfect. He can be a little insecure around other cats, so a home where he gets to be the star of the show would suit him beautifully. He’ll work his way into every lap, charm every visitor, and feel secure in the knowledge he’s a bona fide member of the family!

Contessa, a sleek black cat with big eyes, available for adoption

Contessa (aka Tessa)

Colour: DSH black
Vaccinated: Yes
Spayed/Neutered: Yes.
Good with Other Cats: Yuck! No thanks!
Good with Dogs:

Meet Contessa—Tessa if you're friends, which you will be.

This sweet-tempered, easygoing little black domestic shorthair with the big, innocent eyes has cracked the code on personal space: she loves being near you, not on you. She'll supervise your Zoom calls from the desk corner, claim the other couch cushion during Netflix binges, and absolutely sleep on your bed once she's decided you're her person. Affectionate, smart and social, Tessa fits in easily and will thrive with people who like a friendly, occasionally goofy cat who loves wand toys and will absolutely stretch her legs across her litter box because she decided to nap beside it for reasons only she understands. If you want a cat with personality who wants to bond with you, respects your work calls and claims your blankets, that is Tessa.

He would love a quiet forever home with lots of sunny windows where he could indulge his hobby to his heart’s content. Sweet, gentle Cam is a real “best friend for life” – the sort that grows on you.

Beckett, a black tailless Manx cat available for adoption

Beckett

Age: 5 years
Gender: male
Colour: DSH black manx
Vaccinated: Yes
Spayed/Neutered: Yes.
Good with Other Cats: Only if I have too.
Good with Dogs:
Unknown
Available Programs: Adoption, Foster-to-Adopt

Meet Beckett — affectionately nicknamed "Rumpy" by his volunteers, a loving nod to his signature tail-free Manx behind. At five years old, Beckett has grown into a deeply friendly and affectionate soul, a true “personality” who knows exactly what he wants: your company and that of your visitors, a cozy couch, and a good toy to carry around. He loves rolling around beside you and soaking up attention, but he's equally content tussling energetically with his scratching post and entertaining himself with his toys — and he makes an exceptionally large variety of endearing little sounds as he parades around the house with them in his mouth. If you're really lucky, he might leave one in your bed or on his dinner plate as a very special gift. You may notice one of his eyes looks a little different - another kitten scratched it in play when he was small and his then-owner ignored the resultant infection - but he is now fully healed and living his absolute best life, happy and healthy. At Guildwood Cat Relief, we believe in quality over quantity, and Beckett is the kind of cat who gives everything he has to the people he loves. Oh — and one more thing — he's dog-friendly too, making him a wonderful fit for a multi-pet household.

Adoption Fee: $200

Egerton, a dark brown tabby cat available for adoption

Egerton

Age: 4.5 years
Gender: male
Colour: DSH dark brown tabby
Vaccinated: Yes
Spayed/Neutered: Yes.
Good with Other Cats: Other kitties don’t bother me!
Good with Dogs:
Unknown
Available Programs: Adoption, Foster-to-Adopt

Egerton is a gentleman with a past.

This handsome, self-possessed 4-5 year old black striped tabby (rarer than brown) came to his foster family as a winter stray, missing half his tail. He's since gained weight as well as shiny fur, is very relieved that beds are superior to garden sheds, and has appointed himself the faithful honour guard who is present without being pushy. He's unreservedly affectionate, politely invested in meal times and always open to pets and cuddles. Although this relaxed guy knows how to be independent, he will claim his spot on the bed every night. He would thrive in an experienced, calm household where his humans appreciate low-key companionship over high-energy antics.  If you want a loyal, smart, sensitive cat who'll share your space as a real companion - complete with the chubby cheeks to prove he's done with hard times - Egerton's your man.

Adoption Fee: $200

Boswell, a black cat with a silvery undercoat, available for adoption

Boswell

Age: 2 years
Gender: male
Colour: black with silver undercoat
Vaccinated: Yes
Spayed/Neutered: Yes.
Good with Other Cats: I like to play with other humans, not other kitties!
Good with Dogs:
No
Available Programs: Adoption, Foster-to-Adopt

How about a sweet-natured, affectionate guy with silky fur and dog smarts who likes to give you extremely delicate kisses to say "good night" before sleeping on that extra pillow you got me? I'm sociable, outgoing and faithful, and I can learn tricks with you. I can also figure out in a second or two how to squeeze myself into the smallest of boxes or that paper shopping bag you just emptied.  I do relish a good play session, because being around my humans and engaging with them is what makes me happy. I would really like to find a forever home that appreciates my gifts - personality, intelligence and devotion.

Orion, a ginger orange tabby kitten, bonded with his brother Orestes, available for adoption

Orion

Age: 10 months
Gender: male
Colour: DSH ginger orange tabby
Vaccinated: Yes
Spayed/Neutered: Yes.
Good with Other Cats: Yes, but my brother is my BFF
Good with Dogs:
Unknown
Available Programs: Adoption, Foster-to-Adopt

Bonded brothers Orion and Orestes both come with a little something extra — they’re polydactyls. Orion has one extra toe on each front paw and Orestes has two on each front paw and one on each back paw, which, as his foster mum likes to say, is just more of him to love. But their paws aren’t the only thing that makes these handsome, smallish ginger tabby boys special. Both boys are affectionate, easygoing and confident; they love cuddles and pets, like to snuggle into your chest – they don’t mind being picked up - and just radiate positive energy. Gentle and trusting, they have yet to scratch or bite, and are equally happy chasing a ball or taking an afternoon snooze on your bed. Although they’re both people-oriented, Orestes is the more extrovert of the two, while Orion is the quieter, more reflective one. Having come a long way from their precarious  beginnings, these bonded siblings are  ready for the next chapter of their young lives, looking forward to a family home  that appreciates their enthusiasm for life and natural good-naturedness.

Reyna, a small white-and-tabby Scottish Fold cat, bonded with Sawney, available for adoption

Reyna

Age: 1 year
Gender: female
Colour: DSH Scottish Fold, white/tabby
Vaccinated: Yes
Spayed/Neutered: Yes.
Good with Other Cats: I like other kitties... sometimes.
Good with Dogs:
No
Available Programs: Adoption, Foster-to-Adopt

Sawney: This always good-natured, intelligent boy will follow you around hoping for pets and cuddles, and flop at the drop of a hat. He loves to lie in boxes and bags and is sweet and docile with his humans, although very occasionally he can be seen inexplicably racing around with the zoomies. Sawney  just wants to bond with his humans, sleep on their bed and become a valuable member of the family. He is one of those kitties whose personality somehow stays with you. He'd love to be adopted with his little sister Reyna to a quiet, adult home.

Reyna: I am a loving, gentle, sunny little soul who may be miniature in size but makes up for it in loyalty and companionship. Smart and sweetly vocal (especially at dinnertime), I love to sleep beside you by night and help you work by day by just quietly being somewhere close. I'd be tickled pink if I could be adopted together with my brother Sawney to a quiet, adult home.

Adoption Fee: $350 for both

Martin, a black cat, bonded with Nicole, available for adoption

Colour: DSH Black
Vaccinated: Yes
Spayed/Neutered: Yes.
Good with Other Cats: We like other kitties, but would prefer to be together!
Good with Dogs:
No
Available Programs: Adoption, Foster-to-Adopt

Cousins Nicole and Martin are gentle, trusting and affectionate kitties, small in build, who love to come for pets and cuddles when they see you are available. A wide-eyed, feminine sort of little girl, Nicole likes to interact with her humans on a bed, sofa or chair as opposed to the floor, while Martin is straightforward and enthusiastic about treats anywhere! Both can usually be found hanging out somewhere near you, not necessarily together but aware of each other’s location. Sweetly bonded as they are, they would really like to be adopted together to a quiet adult home.

Adoption Fee: $350 for both
